The East Coast of Dominican Republic has the most important tourists’ destinations. it has the most world-famous beaches and attractions in the Caribbean.

Higuey

The capital city of La Altagracia Province, Higuey, is located on the east tip of the Island and is one of the most developed cities in the country, thanks to the tourism industry.higuey on the map

The most important monuments in the city are the Basilica of La Altagracia, the Church of San Dionisio (Saint Denis), from the 16th century and the residence turned museum of the famed Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de Leon.

The economy of Higüey is based on tropical agriculture (reed, coffee, tobacco, cacao, rice, and maize), cattle (cows and pigs), fishing and tourism on the coast.

The main historical attraction in Higüey is the Cathedral, which displays the “Virgen de la Altagracia”, a painting brought by Spanish missionaries in the 15th century. The painting was previously kept in the similarly 500-year-old church of San Dionisio, which remains in religious use. Every year on Virgin of La Altagracia Day (January 21), a national holiday, tens of thousands of pilgrims visit the Cathedral.

Punta Cana is the home of various clubs, discos, restaurants, several theme parks, various marvelous Golf Courses, a state of the art marina and more, all of which makes Punta Cana the land of relaxation and  good vacationing.

Bavaro is also known for its exuberant flora and fauna, as well for its natural beauty. Especially Bavaro lagoon, a part of an extensive area of wetlands, which every person must visit.

Punta Cana and Bavaro have the most beautiful beaches in the country, including Juanillo, Arena Gorda, El Cortecito, Playa Blanca, Macao, Cabo Engaño and Uvero Alto. Punta Cana and Bavaro definitely guarantee an unforgettable experience.
